Q: What exercises are good for people with asthma?
I really want to get into shape, but it seems that all the cardio work outs that I have tried bring on an asthma attack. I use my inhaler before the exercise, but I still experience symptoms after running, jumping, and swimming. Any suggestions?
A: The best kind of doctor you can ask about that would be a sports medicine doctor. That's their field and deal with people like you every day. 20% of the athletes in Beijing were asthmatics. So get the best advice you can. Check with your primary care physician first. He/she might be able to help you or refer you to the sports medicine doc or a pulmonologist.
Sorry, just thought of this. How are you using your inhaler? You should take two puffs 5 minutes apart. And then wait 15 minutes before starting.
God bless.

Q: How much does it cost to treat feline asthma?
Ive watched youtube videos and it seems to match what my cat is doing. My cat has been having symptoms for 3 weeks now.
I am going to bring him to the vet just wondering what tests they will have to do, and how much is costs to treat the asthma.
A: They generally will do two things: one is to test for heartworm (as that can cause a cough that is just like the one that asthma causes) and two is to do an xray of the heart and lungs. That will help them diagnose asthma. If it is asthma, they generally prescribe an oral steroid that will reduce the inflammation and that helps with the cough. The steroids are cheap, actually. Sometimes a bronchiodilator drug is prescribed as well, depending on the severity of the asthma. In most cases it's a fairly easy to manage condition.
Q: What can help ease a minor asthma attack, without an inhaler?
I am 99% sure I have asthma. A few minutes ago I started getting sharp pains in my chest, and now my breathing has worsened. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to get confirmation that it actually is asthma (if not something else)
But, as of right now I need something I can do for tonight that can help my breathing.
A: Over the counter Primatene Mist inhaler. They are around $20 but breathing would be worth it.
I know you said without an inhaler but I am thinking you meant a prescribed one.
Q: What is the difference between reactive airway disease and asthma?
My doctor told me I have reactive airway disease and not asthma. What is the difference?
A: they are the same. I wondered for years, too, maybe a regional/background taught to differerent MD< its the same.
Q: What can i do about my asthma in the army?
I have asthma sense i was in AIT, and its been getting to me ever sense. Ive been in for 2 years and a couple of months and its not getting better. I was told by others with asthma that i can get a profile for it. Can i or will they discharge me for it.
A: Go on sick call and get treatment.
I was diagnosed with adult-onset asthma in 1996 and retired in 2006.
As long as your asthma is under control and you do well on the APFT - you will not even need a profile. (I never had a profile for my asthma and scored between 280 and 290 on my APFTs.
Q: What are some tips of living with asthma?
I have asthma, and its not that bad. This spring seems to be its worse. I also have seasonal allergies so both of them together, are not a good mix. What are some things I can do to help my asthma? I already have medicine, etc. and I also have an air filter. What else can I do or get, i.e a humidifier or dehumidifier, etc. Thanks!!
Also, website sources are GREAT!

Q: What is the quickest way to make my congestion and asthma go down before my flight tomorrow?
I'm leaving tomorrow on a trip from the tropics to the East Coast of the US and I JUST got this hooooorrible cold that is causing my asthma to act up and is leaving me sleepless because of the congestion. I would hate to imagine what the snow will do to me once I get there. I'm feverish as well. I prefer natural remedies, but at the moment, I'm pretty desperate. Anything that works is useful.
Thanks!
A: Poor little thing♥ Eat more foods rich in vitamin C ~ in particular, limes and lemons, also oranges, strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, leafy and green vegies, red and green peppers♥
*****edit*****
Loads of freshly squeezed juices are good too♥
Pump up your fresh filtered water intake as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one♥
Avoid sugar as bacteria will only multiply and feed on sugar. Also avoid B complex thieves such as caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks, alcohol .............. all these things will also do a great job of dehydrating you♥
Take a B complex supplement as the B complex of vitamins are essential for healthy neural digestive and immune system functioning♥
*******
vitamin C will bolster your immunity and help to torch those nasty cold and flu germs♥
I managed to catch a nasty flu / virus last Thursday and today is thursday and my symptoms have all but disappeared ~ apparently my desire for that tangy lime taste has spared me♥
Squeeze the juice of half a lime or lemon into a cup of hot water and sip on that ~ add honey to taste as honey also has antiobiotic properties in it♥
Then eat the remainder of the lime or lemon (bar the skin of course) ............. the vitamin C content of fresh lemons and limes is very potent and will knock a sore throat and cold / flu within a few days and give you some degree of immediate relief.
Only thing is, protect the enamel on your pearly whites by rinsing your mouth out with water afterwards♥
Eucalyptus oil has long been respected for its ability to lower temperatures and help the respiratory tract by loosening and removing mucus during attacks of bronchitis, coughs, flu, sinusitis and throat infections. Its antiviral and antibacterial action will deter further growth of the bacteria or virus♥
Put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a hot bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes luxuriously inhaling the steamy wonderfull vapours.......... this will help enormously in loosening congestion and mucus from your chest and respiratory tract.
Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil also onto a hanky and lie it next to your pillow at night to help ease breathing.
Fill a salad bowl with hot water and put 1/2 a capfull of eucalyptus oil into it ~ make a tent with a towel over your head and lean over the bowl and inhale the steamy eucalypt vapours ........... being carefull not to get so close that you burn your face♥
Caution ~ Do not use eucalyptus oil if you suffer from epilepsy or high blood pressure ....... if either is the case simply substitute with tea tree oil which is also a brilliant antiviral and antibacterial♥
Good health to you♥
Hope you have a nice holiday♥
be brave and eat the limes hun ~ amazing stuff♥

Q: Is it true that a chihuahua can get rid of asthma?
I had very bad asthma when i was a kid.My mom heard from our vet that it is physological but if it works it works. Now I don't have any.Is this true?
A: Not true at all. An old wives tale I found this on medicinenet.
:
Whatever you do, don't go out and adopt a Chihuahua to cure your asthma, says Christopher Bates, MD, assistant professor of medicine at National Jewish Medical Center in Denver, Colo. It's not that they are any more likely than other pets to cause asthma, but they certainly don't prevent it as common folklore suggests, he says. "Some cultures believe Chihuahuas take your asthma away from you and that's not true," he says.
There is some evidence that if you're having an asthma attack and you can't get to yourprescribed medicine, two to four cups of black coffee can help, he says. "Coffee contains a substance related to an asthma drug called theophylline," he says. "But a recent study showed that this really made no difference in terms of emergency room visits," he adds.
"Asthma can be aggravated by cold dry air and the only tried and true home remedy is boiling a kettle of hot water on stove and putting a towel over your head and inhaling the steam because the warm humidified air is good for asthmatic lungs," he says. If you have asthma, make sure your medications are with you at all times and if you suspect that you have asthma, see a doctor to get the proper diagnosis and treatment, he says.
Q: Are beagles good dogs for people with asthma?
I love beagles, but I have terrible asthma and allergies. I plan on going to get allergy shots, and after receiving those for awhile, I hope to get a beagle puppy. Does anyone know if Beagles are ok dogs for people with asthma?
A: If your allergies include dog dander, the beagle wouldn't be the best choice..
Hypoallergenic dog breeds are those touted as being hypoallergenic; that is, provoking fewer allergic reactions in allergy sufferers.
There are various coat types that are said to produce fewer allergens: single-coated dogs, who do not have a thick undercoat; dogs whose coat continues to grow, like human hair, rather than shedding regularly; and hairless dogs. These breeds usually shed less dander and hair and are, therefore, considered hypoallergenic. However, even hairless dogs can produce enough dander to affect a highly allergic person.
